Ghana hosts high-level dialogue on early childhood development in Oxford
A former Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. K. B. Tandoh, has convened and moderated a high-level dialogue on multi-sectoral collaboration in Early Childhood Development (ECD) for Ghana in Oxford, United Kingdom.
The two-day engagement brought together senior officials from key government institutions, including the Ministries of Education, Health, and Gender, Children and Social Protection, as well as the National Development Planning Commission.
The discussions focused on strengthening cross-sector collaboration to improve early childhood development outcomes in Ghana, with participants emphasizing the need for a more integrated national approach.
Dr. Tandoh noted that ECD can no longer be treated as the responsibility of a single sector, but rather as a shared national priority essential to building human capital and driving long-term development.
He described the dialogue as an important step toward deepening cooperation among public institutions to ensure that children are supported to reach their full developmental potential.
According to him, the insights generated from the Oxford engagement will contribute not only to improved policy implementation in Ghana but also to broader global discussions on early childhood governance from an African perspective.
He added that the outcomes of the dialogue reinforce a renewed commitment to translating strategic discussions into practical interventions that strengthen child development systems at the national level.
