AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant connected to national grid to boost electricity supply
The integration of the AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant into Ghana’s national transmission grid has been completed, marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to expand power generation capacity and strengthen the reliability of electricity supply.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has inspected the facility following the successful grid tie-in executed by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), paving the way for the plant to begin supplying power to the national network.
When fully operational, the Anwomaso plant is expected to contribute about 141 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the grid. The additional capacity is projected to significantly support households, businesses, and industrial users, particularly in the middle belt and surrounding regions.
Authorities say the new capacity will help ease pressure on the power system during peak demand periods, improve voltage stability, and enhance overall supply reliability as electricity demand continues to rise alongside economic recovery and industrial growth.
Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Jinapor described the project as a major achievement within the government’s broader energy strategy, which places emphasis on long-term system stability and sustainable power delivery.
“The completion of the tie-in at the AKSA Anwomaso Power Plant is a significant milestone in our drive to expand generation capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply for Ghanaians.
It reflects our commitment to long-term system stability and sustainable energy delivery,” he said.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition noted that incremental capacity additions, such as the Anwomaso plant, are critical to reducing the risk of power supply shortfalls and supporting private sector productivity.
