Court grants NLC 10-day injunction to suspend CLOGSAG strike
The Accra High Court has granted a 10-day injunction against the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), temporarily halting their strike after the National Labour Commission (NLC) sought court intervention.
The injunction order comes amid an escalating dispute between CLOGSAG and the government over delayed salary restructuring, which the association argues should have been addressed by an October 31 deadline.
CLOGSAG announced the strike on grounds of what it called a “prolonged delay” in finalising a salary structure expected to take effect in January 2025, and expressed frustration over the lack of a “concrete offer” despite multiple meetings with government representatives.
However, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) countered CLOGSAG's position, stating that the association had not formally responded to a new government salary proposal provided weeks ago.
This impasse prompted the NLC to file an urgent application on Thursday, 7 November 2024 for an interim injunction, asking the court to bring the strike to an immediate halt.
In response, the High Court approved a temporary suspension of the strike, stating: “The application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration, the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice.”
