Ghana and the Netherlands have strengthened their collaboration in combating transnational organised crime with the official handover of a funding agreement to procure new full-body scanners for the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The scanners, which will replace the Narcotics Control Commission’s (NACOC) existing equipment, are expected to significantly enhance Ghana’s capacity to detect drug trafficking and other illicit activities at the airport.

The handover took place at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, immediately after the closing ceremony of the two-day High-Level Dialogue on Drug Markets in West Africa.

The event brought together key dignitaries, including the Netherlands Minister for Justice and Security, Mr Foort van Oosten; Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak; Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and other senior officials.

The Dutch Government’s financial support forms part of ongoing bilateral efforts to strengthen security systems, improve surveillance, and enhance operational efficiency in drug interdiction at Ghana’s ports of entry.

Officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in security and intelligence-sharing as West Africa continues to battle organised crime networks.
