GA/R: Bortianor elders call for gov't intervention amid escalating land disputes

The elders and family of the Nii Quacoo Stool House at Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama and the relevant ministers responsible for peace and security to urgently intervene in the growing land disputes threatening peace and development in the area.
Speaking to the media, family spokesperson Jonathan Quacoo expressed deep concern over the increasing takeover of ancestral lands by unidentified private companies.
He noted that these incursions are happening without proper consultation or advocacy for the indigenous people of Bortianor, leaving many feeling powerless and sidelined.
Mr Quacoo warned that the ongoing disputes have created a climate of insecurity, which is stalling progress and development in the community.
“The tension and fear caused by these land issues are holding Bortianor back,” he stated.
The family is urging the government to take concrete steps by enacting and enforcing laws that ensure land acquisition is done through legitimate and transparent means.
They believe such measures are necessary to protect indigenous rights and prevent future conflicts.
In a strong caution to authorities, the Nii Quacoo Stool House warned that if the government fails to act swiftly, frustrated residents may be forced to take the law into their own hands to defend their lands and heritage.
The situation, they noted, calls for immediate and decisive action to prevent further escalation and restore peace and order in the Bortianor traditional area.
