Mahmud Kabore, spokesperson for the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has lauded the Ghana Gold Board (GGB) for its exceptional contribution to the government’s ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to Mr Kabore, no institution in Ghana has supported the government’s anti-galamsey efforts more than the Ghana Gold Board, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Gyamfi, citing its strong collaboration with regulatory bodies and mining communities to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices.

Mr Kabore made this commendation speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson   on Accra 100.5 FM  on Monday, October 6, 2025

He noted that the Board’s initiatives — including monitoring licensed small-scale miners, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and promoting ethical gold sourcing — have significantly advanced the national agenda to protect Ghana’s natural resources.

Mr. Kabore reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Ghana Gold Board and other stakeholders to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and safeguard the country’s mining sector.

The government’s multi-agency approach to the galamsey fight under the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat(NIAMOS) continues to emphasise partnership, community education, and sustainable development as the surest path toward preserving Ghana’s environment and mineral wealth.
