Acting Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Mr. Caesar Kale, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to restoring and retooling the state-owned transport service to reclaim its role as a major force in Ghana’s public transport sector.

Speaking during a working visit to the Sunyani branch of the company, Mr. Kale told staff that the new management team is determined to transform both the national headquarters and regional branches.

The visit forms part of a broader national tour by MMTL leadership aimed at assessing the condition of buses and terminals across the country.

In an interview with CTV and Accra FM, Mr. Kale revealed that MMTL is expecting to take delivery of between 90 and 100 electric buses by the end of this year or early next year.

He explained that the deployment of the buses would support the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, adding that “every region will receive its share.”

He emphasised that the introduction of electric buses is just one of several strategic interventions the company is undertaking to modernise its fleet and improve operations.

“We are working on comprehensive plans to reintroduce services on previously inactive or underserved routes, particularly within city centres.

This will help boost intra-city transport and make our services more accessible to the general public,” Mr. Kale stated.

He further noted that management is developing clear and practical implementation strategies to restore the company’s operational strength, including equipping staff with the right tools and facilities needed to deliver quality service.

The assurance from Mr. Kale comes at a time when commuters across the country are calling for more reliable and affordable transport services.

MMTL’s planned revamp is seen as a step in the right direction toward improving public transportation and reducing congestion in major urban centres.
