Small-Scale Miners Association backs Ghana Goldbod, vows to end illegal gold trading

The President of the Small-Scale Miners Association, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, has pledged the Association’s full support for the newly launched Ghana Goldbod initiative, stressing that the era of illegal gold trading is over.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement, Mr. Peprah affirmed that the Goldbod system marks a turning point for the sector by introducing transparency, accountability, and regulation into gold transactions.
He said the Association would work closely with government and regulators to ensure that all trading activities comply with the law.
“The new Ghana Goldbod era will not tolerate illegal gold trading anymore.
Every miner and trader must operate within the formal system to protect our industry and Ghana’s reputation,” he emphasised.
Mr. Peprah further noted that curbing illegal gold trading would secure better value for Ghana’s natural resources, boost revenue for the state, and ensure a fairer playing field for licensed small-scale miners.
The government has described Ghana Goldbod as a key reform to sanitise the gold trade, clamp down on illicit dealings, and strengthen the country’s position as a leading gold producer in Africa.
