Ghana records more than 27,000 new cancer cases annually-GMTF
Ghana records more than 27,000 new cancer cases annually,a situation that continues to place significant financial pressure on affected families across the country.
Against this backdrop, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund has announced that it will begin its interventions with a focus on cancer care, with the aim of reducing the high cost of specialised treatment.
The initiative is expected to provide financial relief to patients and families who often struggle to afford the expenses associated with diagnosis, treatment and long-term care.
The Administrator of the Fund, Adwoa Oboubia Darko-Opoku, said the decision to prioritise cancer care reflects the urgent need to address one of the country’s most expensive and life-threatening health challenges.
He emphasised that no individual should have to suffer catastrophic financial loss while seeking treatment for cancer, describing the intervention as a step toward improving access to life-saving healthcare.
The fund is expected to roll out further details of its implementation plan in the coming weeks as part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare support systems.
