Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing long-standing challenges within Ghana’s health sector, describing the system as one in urgent need of reform and collective responsibility.

Speaking during a presentation of essential medical equipment and supplies to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the Minister emphasised that sustainable change in healthcare delivery requires unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment from all stakeholders.

The donation, made on behalf of the Ministry of Health, included a comprehensive range of equipment such as ECG machines, ICU ventilators, cardiac monitors, anaesthesia machines, infant incubators, and other essential consumables.

A total of 35 items were handed over, including Emergency Health Equipment (EHE) sets, nebuliser sets, and medical-grade towels.

Acknowledging the difficult conditions under which many healthcare professionals operate, Mr. Akandoh commended their dedication but stressed that government efforts alone would not be sufficient to overcome systemic challenges.

“This is a shared responsibility,” he said. “Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and all health professionals must come together to ensure our limited resources are used efficiently.

The well-being of the ordinary Ghanaian must remain at the heart of everything we do.”

He warned against healthcare practices that marginalise the underprivileged due to resource limitations, stressing that “every Ghanaian life is valuable, and our system must reflect that truth in both policy and practice.”

The Health Minister also highlighted his leadership style, which he said is rooted in humility, collaboration, and respect for all health workers.

He acknowledged that change will come with challenges but insisted that dialogue and cooperation are essential to achieving lasting progress.

In light of ongoing tensions at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Mr Akandoh pleaded with striking health professionals to return to work and engage in constructive dialogue.

He urged them to regroup and collaborate with relevant authorities to develop more effective solutions to their concerns.
