Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Gbevlo-Lartey at Sankara's mausoleum inauguration in Burkina Faso

The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has praised the people and government of Burkina Faso for their powerful tribute to the late revolutionary leader, Captain Thomas Sankara.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly built Thomas Sankara Mausoleum in Ouagadougou, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings described the moment as a significant milestone in preserving national identity and honouring historical memory.
The mausoleum, located on the very grounds where Sankara and twelve of his comrades were assassinated in 1987, blends modern architectural design with traditional Burkinabe craftsmanship, reflecting a unique fusion of memory, culture, and legacy.
"This is more than just a monument," Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings said. "It is a living tribute to ideals of justice, accountability, and revolutionary purpose that continue to inspire Africa today."
Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Retired), also addressed the gathering and drew compelling parallels between Captain Sankara and Ghana’s late former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
Describing the two leaders as ideological peers, Col. Gbevlo-Lartey highlighted their shared commitment to justice, equity, and grassroots empowerment.
"They were charismatic, courageous, and deeply devoted to the transformation of their societies," he noted. "Their visions were anchored in self-reliance and people-centred governance—principles that remain relevant across generations."
The inauguration of the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum forms part of Burkina Faso’s broader effort to preserve the legacy of one of Africa’s most influential revolutionary figures, while also reaffirming the enduring bonds of Pan-African solidarity.
The event also saw Ghana honoured, with the announcement that a ceremonial street in Ouagadougou will soon be named after President Jerry John Rawlings in recognition of his historic friendship with Sankara and his contribution to African liberation.
