KATH pledges to resolve water crisis affecting surgeries

The management at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Kumasi metropolis of the Ashanti Region has assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the ongoing water crisis, which has led to the suspension of non-emergency surgeries at the facility.
The hospital’s Orthopaedic and Emergency Directorate has been forced to halt surgical procedures, except for emergency cases, due to the lack of water supply.
Speaking on the situation, Kwame Frimpong, Public Relations Officer of KATH, revealed that the hospital has not received water from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for the past 10 days, severely affecting healthcare delivery.
He disclosed that management is working closely with GWCL to restore supply while also seeking support from the Ghana National Fire Service and private water suppliers to provide temporary relief.
Mr Frimpong emphasized the need for a long-term solution, calling for significant investment in expanding the hospital’s water supply and storage capacity to prevent future disruptions.
He also appealed to GWCL to establish a dedicated pipeline for KATH, ensuring the facility does not have to compete with nearby communities for water resources.
The hospital remains committed to providing quality healthcare and hopes for a swift resolution to the crisis.
