2024 polls: Omane Boamah tells NDC agents to insist EC posts pink sheets at polling stations
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters to monitor polling stations closely during Ghana’s upcoming elections to prevent potential voting irregularities.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, urged party agents to ensure that presiding officers adhere to legal requirements, including posting "pink sheets" – official results summaries – at polling stations, in line with Ghana’s electoral regulations under Constitutional Instrument 127.
Speaking at a rally in Otoase, Ayensuano constituency, Dr. Boamah emphasised that party agents should insist on the pink sheets being posted to curb any attempts at tampering with vote counts.
He further instructed supporters to begin gathering near polling stations in the late afternoon to observe the sorting, counting, and announcement of results.
“Take videos during counting and sorting to document proceedings,” Dr. Boamah said, adding that any refusal by presiding officers to post the results should be reported to police officers as a potential violation of election law.
Additionally, he pressed the Electoral Commission (EC) to confirm that all necessary materials, including the 40,600 pink sheets, had been distributed nationwide. Boamah warned that any shortfall in the distribution of these materials would raise concerns about transparency in the election.
The rally in Ayensuano marked the beginning of Dr. Boamah’s five-day campaign tour in Ghana’s Eastern Region, where he is engaging local leaders and residents to build support for the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Mahama.
