#2024Polls: The people of Ghana have spoken, we respect that – Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has acknowledged the Ghanaian electorate’s call for change in the just-ended December 7 elections, conceding defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing the nation at a press conference on Sunday, 8 December 2024, Dr Bawumia revealed that he had personally called the flagbearer of the NDC, Mr Mahama to congratulate him on his decisive victory.
“The people of Ghana have spoken; the people have voted for change at this time, and we respect that decision with all humility,” Dr Bawumia declared.
While the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to officially announce the results, Dr Bawumia affirmed his belief that the outcome was clear.
“Former President Mahama and the NDC have won the presidential election decisively, while the NDC has also won the parliamentary election, although they are still waiting for the final collation. I believe those results will not change the whole outcome,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia explained that his early concession was a deliberate effort to safeguard national peace and unity.
“My concession speech ahead of the EC’s official announcement is to avoid further tension and preserve the peace of our country,” he noted.
