Ablekuma West MP begins local production of pavement blocks ahead of community road paving project
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo, has begun local production of pavement blocks as part of efforts to improve inner-community alleys across the constituency.
The move marks the first phase of a broader road enhancement plan designed to complement the government’s anticipated 10km road construction project under the President’s flagship road development programme.
Rev. Dr. Addo explained that the production of pavement blocks is a strategic and proactive measure to ensure that communities—particularly those not immediately slated for asphalt surfacing—receive durable and well-structured paving solutions.
He noted that the initiative will enhance mobility, improve the visual appeal of the constituency, and help reduce dust, erosion, and the recurring damage associated with unpaved roads.
The MP reiterated that the project aligns with his longstanding commitment to addressing the rough and uneven inner roads that have plagued communities such as Dansoman, Opetekwei, Glefe, and surrounding areas.
By producing the blocks locally, he said, costs will be significantly reduced, short-term job opportunities will be created, and a steady supply of materials will be guaranteed for ongoing improvement works.
While the central government’s 10km road project is expected to upgrade major arterial roads, Rev. Dr. Addo stressed that his paving initiative is specifically tailored to tackle internal roads and access routes that directly impact residents’ daily lives.
He urged residents to support the implementation of the project, assuring them that paving will commence in priority areas as soon as the production of blocks reaches the required capacity.
