Dave Bishop, an American philanthropist and development chief of Nyanfeku Ekroful in Ghana’s Central Region, has officially become a Ghanaian citizen.

Bishop, who received his citizenship certificate in a ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre on November 19, 2024, is known locally as Nana Ekow Amu I, following his enstoolment in December 2023.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, his dedication to Ghana’s development has led to his rapid naturalization, driven by his extensive philanthropic work.

As founder of the Dave’s Choice Community Development Corporation, Bishop has initiated projects in Accra and beyond, including GoingToGhana.com, which showcases Ghana's culture and history to international travellers.

Bishop’s future events include “Mother’s Day in the Motherland” in May 2025—a celebration of motherhood and Ghanaian heritage—and “Motown in the Motherland” in June 2025, which will bring Detroit professionals to Ghana during Juneteenth for a cultural exchange.

He also plans to launch a concierge service at Kotoka International Airport to assist first-time visitors to Ghana.

Bishop’s contributions include building schools, maternity wards, and computer labs, and he credits his dedication to the values instilled by his father, a Baptist minister.

Reflecting on his new citizenship, Bishop expressed gratitude and hinted at his next steps, saying in an interview with Class FM, “I think I might run for public office now that I’m a citizen... it’s attainable.

I’m Ghanaian now.”

Bishop’s influence is growing, underscoring his commitment to strengthening ties between the U.S. and Ghana and creating lasting impacts through leadership and service.
