Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has declared that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the most formidable candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections. 

His comment was made in a Facebook post on Friday, 20 June 2025, as discussions within the party intensify following the announcement of its upcoming presidential primaries.

Dr Bawumia's candidacy remains a subject of widespread interest and speculation, particularly among party faithful who view him as a unifying and influential figure.

“The NPP's best bet, the party’s most formidable candidate in the next election, is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” Mr Azure wrote in a brief but pointed statement. 

Mr Azure’s post comes shortly after the NPP confirmed that it will hold its presidential primaries on 31 January 2026. 

The decision, approved by the party’s National Council, marks the beginning of what is expected to be a fiercely contested internal election, as the party seeks a candidate capable of reversing its electoral misfortunes.
