Bawumia’s brother and wife renovated Sunyani airport phase two project for GHS 52.2 million under sole-sourcing

Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for awarding lucrative contracts to Vice President and flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s brother through sole-sourcing.
Mr Gyamfi highlighted that despite the NPP's promise to reduce sole-sourcing contracts, they have been allegedly awarding contracts to Dr. Bawumia’s brother's company, Resource Access Limited, through this same method.
He alleged that these contracts were not only awarded without competitive bidding but were also significantly overpriced.
According to Mr Gyamfi, many of the contracts given to Resource Access Limited owned by Abraham Bawumia were overpriced three times higher than the market rate.
Specifically, he pointed to the renovation of the phase two Sunyani airport project, claiming that the contract awarded to Dr. Bawumia’s brother was valued at GH₵52.2 million.
In contrast, the actual renovation of the Sunyani airport under former President John Dramani Mahama's administration cost GH₵100,000.
Despite this large expenditure, Mr Gyamfi noted that the frontage of the Sunyani airport remains dilapidated till date.
These revelations were made during the NDC’s communications directorate’s "Moment of Truth" series held in Accra and addressed by Mr Gyamfi.
Mr Gyamfi underscored the hypocrisy of the NPP, stating, "This is a man in opposition who preached against sole-sourcing only to come to power and become an enabler of sole-sourcing leading to his brother and wife benefiting heavily."
He concluded that Dr Bawumia’s brother has bagged GHS 218 million out of five overpriced contracts awarded on sole sourcing.
