Dec 7 polls: This is not the time for comedy, no space for stale falsehoods – Mahama
The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has emphasised the gravity of the presidential role, urging that it be entrusted to capable individuals amid the pressing challenges faced by Ghanaians.
Addressing recent political developments, Mr. Mahama underscored the urgency of the nation’s current issues and stressed that the 2024 election should not be trivialised with jokes and comedy.
“Ghanaians are in dire straits and this is not the time for comedy. This is not for a concert party about passing the mythical steer to somebody,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama specifically criticised the symbolic handover of a mythical steer in political campaigns, arguing that such actions undermine the seriousness required for the presidency.
He emphasised that the president’s job should be taken seriously, particularly in light of the significant challenges confronting the nation.
In his critique, Mr. Mahama also questioned Vice-President Dr. Bawumia’s tendency to claim credit for the NPP government’s positive outcomes while evading responsibility for its shortcomings.
“It is unimaginable the narrative by some people that they have championed everything under this government, and at the same time are not responsible for anything under the same government because they were a self-styled driver's mate,” he remarked.
Mr. Mahama insisted that outdated slogans and deceptive practices have no place in Ghana's current political landscape, asserting that such conduct would not be tolerated by the electorate.
“There is no space for stale falsehoods and gas lighting. It is simply not tenable and an insult to the intelligence of the electorates and the presidency cannot be presented to those who present themselves as the future when they have been at the epicentre of our disastrous present,” he intimated.
