After days of intense public discourse surrounding a controversial $800 cash gift from the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, the Office of the President has officially responded to the matter.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has been fully briefed on the issue and has accepted an official apology from Mr. Gyamfi.

“President Mahama acknowledges the public’s concern and has taken the matter seriously. While Mr. Gyamfi’s conduct was found wanting, the President has accepted his apology and issued a firm caution,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.

He further emphasised that the President remains committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics and accountability in public office.

“Let it be clear that all appointees under this administration are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and in full adherence to the government’s Code of Conduct,” he added.

The statement brings some closure to the controversy, which sparked criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the propriety of a public official gifting cash to a controversial religious figure.

While the presidency’s decision may cool immediate tensions, it also serves as a warning to other government officials about the importance of maintaining public trust and transparency in their actions, he concluded.
