The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public of alternative methods to verify the parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency following a fire outbreak at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.

The fire, which occurred on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, destroyed ballot papers and boxes used in the just-ended election.

Speaking at an event organized by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) on Wednesday, the EC’s Director for Training, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, stated that the Commission is fully prepared to address the situation.

“The ballot boxes have been burnt, but we have results in other forms.

Once we gather the results from these alternative sources and confirm their completeness, we can proceed with collation,” Dr. Quaicoe explained.

He emphasized the need to uphold the will of voters, cautioning against allowing technical challenges or disruptive actions to undermine the electoral process.

“My point is that we should not set a precedent where the process can be truncated by external factors.

The decision of the voter must be upheld, not overridden by technicalities or any form of interference,” he added.

The Ablekuma North parliamentary election has already been marred by disputes.

On Tuesday, December 10, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Awurabena Aubynn, was declared the winner after hours of contention.

However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, has rejected the results, claiming victory and demanding a re-collation.
