Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed Ghana’s strong commitment to tackling climate change, highlighting the country’s leadership role as host of the Climate Vulnerable Forum and the Vulnerable 20 Group.

Speaking at the 2nd Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, the Vice President stressed the need for Africa to transform climate challenges into opportunities for growth, resilience, and innovation.

“Our focus must be on turning climate risks into opportunities through green growth, sustainable practices, and innovation. Africa cannot afford to be a mere consumer of technology; we must become contributors and leaders in climate solutions,” she said.

She called on African leaders to invest in nature-based solutions, citing Ethiopia’s ambitious 40 billion trees project as an example of how local initiatives can drive continental transformation.

The Vice President further emphasised that effective climate policies must be rooted in regional cooperation, strong partnerships, and shared responsibility, noting that such approaches would strengthen Africa’s collective resilience.

She concluded with a call for an agenda that goes beyond reducing vulnerabilities to empower communities to thrive sustainably, pledging Ghana’s readiness to work with neighbours and partners to advance this vision.
