Ghanaians unhappy with Kennedy Agyepong’s religious and tribal hate speech against Bawumia

Kennedy Agyepong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has come under fire following reports of controversial remarks he made during a recent meeting with a group of lawyers in Kumasi.
At the gathering, Agyepong allegedly attributed the rejection of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, because of his Muslim faith and minority tribal background.
His comments have sparked widespread outrage among party members, many of whom have taken to social media to express their disapproval.
Some party faithfuls have criticised Mr Agyepong’s approach, warning that such divisive rhetoric could harm the party as it embarks on its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 elections.
Critics have also pointed out that Mr Agyepong employed a similar strategy during the NPP’s 2023 flagbearer contest and have cautioned that they will not tolerate a repeat of such behaviour.
“The party’s supreme interest must come before personal ambitions,” one concerned party member stated.
Mr Agyepong has reportedly declared his intention to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position once again, but his latest remarks have raised concerns about the potential impact on party unity.
Many have urged all party members to prioritise cohesion over divisive rhetoric as they prepare for future electoral battles
