Loyalty must be earned, not demanded – Razak Kojo Opoku

Dr Razak Kojo Opoku, Founder and President of UP Tradition Institute (UPTI), has emphasized that loyalty and commitment in leadership, especially in politics, must be earned and reciprocated, rather than demanded or manipulated.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 10, Dr. Opoku underscored the need for mutual respect and trust between leaders and followers, stating that no one owes anyone allegiance on a silver platter.
“Loyalty and commitment are earned. They are also reciprocal,” he noted. “Understanding this basic principle in life, especially as a politician, is crucial.”
He further advised political leaders to be mindful of the people they choose to work with and trust, while also allowing supporters and party members the freedom to align with leaders they can trust and conveniently work with in peace.
“As a leader, you choose the people you can trust and work with conveniently.
So let’s allow the people, too, to choose leaders they can follow and collaborate with in peace,” Dr. Opoku stated.
He cautioned against the weaponization of loyalty and disloyalty in political spaces, calling it counter-productive and manipulative.
“No more loyalty and disloyalty manipulations,” he declared. “Loyalty must be serviced'', he concluded.
