NDC Legal Director claims Bryan Acheampong positioning for direct contest with Bawumia
The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Eduzi Tamakloe, has suggested that Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a leading presidential hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is strategically positioning himself as a stronger alternative to former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, in the party’s flagbearer race.
According to Mr. Tamakloe, Dr. Acheampong’s emerging posture appears aimed at narrowing the contest within the NPP to a direct face-off between himself and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is widely regarded as the frontrunner in the race.
Speaking on the evolving dynamics of the NPP’s internal competition, the NDC legal director argued that Dr. Acheampong’s strategy suggests a calculated attempt to consolidate support and present himself as the most viable challenger to Dr. Bawumia, potentially sidelining other contenders.
While he did not provide specific details on how this positioning is being executed, Mr. Tamakloe described the development as an “interesting” shift that reflects intensifying manoeuvring within the opposition party ahead of its presidential primary on January 31.
