A Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande has said Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, lacks the credibility to bring back Ghana’s dead economy.
According to Mr Gbande, the finance minister lacks the efficacy to bring the economy back on track yet, President Akufo-Addo is unwilling to remove him.
“Currently, the finance minister cannot be trusted. He lacks the leverage to attract stakeholders that will help build this economy,” he stressed.
He said the president is hesitating to remove his nephew from office in the face of stark failures as the finance minister.
Mr Gbande said this on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odeyeeba Kofi Essuman on Tuesday, March 21, 2023
He said the finance minister has extremely mismanaged the country’s economy.
“It beats the imagination of the optics why the president is still keeping his nephew as the finance minister when there are equally qualified personalities in the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
“Mismanagement and incompetence has gotten us to where we are today,” he added.
“The true state of the nation is that the president and his family have brought hardships to Ghanaians,” he maintained.
“It is time for the president to admit his mismanagement and call for a national consensus building to come together to salvage the situation,” he added.
He argued that in the face of economic woes, the president has appointed needless people to the presidency.
