High flying Black Starlets beat Benin to top Group A
The National Under-17 side, the Black Starlets, have scaled over Benin in their last group game of the ongoing WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship.
Playmaker Mark Kagawa shot the Black Starlets in front as they won 2-0 over Benin to top Group A.
After Benin looked like upsetting the Black Starlets in the early minutes of the game, Mark Kagawa set the stadium ablaze with a brilliant loop to break the deadlock on the 20th minute.
Two minutes after Kagawa sent Ghana into the lead, Theophilus Ayamga thrilled the fans with a beautiful carpet drive after pouncing on a rebound.
Benin came close to reducing the tally but goalkeeper Michael Armah was up to the task, stretching to his elastic limit to stop what could have been a wonderful finish.
Ghana went into the break with a 2-0 lead promising to score more after recess.
The Black Starlets won a number of free kicks in the second half but failed to make judicious use of them leaving the fans gasping for more goals.
While Benin were pushing to reduce the tally, the swift-attacking Black Starlets kept the heat on them until the final minutes of the game.
Ghana will now cross swords with the 2nd-placed side in Group B after their group games on Wednesday.
