The Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Brigadier-General Glover Ashong Annan, has issued a stern warning to corrupt officials within the service, stating that his administration will not tolerate any actions that undermine the country’s revenue collection efforts.

During a working visit to the Tema Port, General Annan reaffirmed that revenue mobilisation remains a top priority for the Customs Division and stressed that protecting the integrity of the system is essential to national development.

Speaking at a staff durbar held at the Long Room, he called on officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, warning that any individuals found engaging in corrupt practices would face decisive action.

“We will not allow a few bad actors to derail the hard work of the many dedicated officers who serve with integrity,” General Annan declared.

The Commissioner acknowledged the significant progress made by the Customs Division in recent years but noted that there is still room for improvement.

He emphasised the need for innovation and continuous improvement in operational procedures to enhance efficiency and transparency.

As part of his visit, General Annan toured key operational areas, including the Meridian Port Services and the Examination Bay.

He used the opportunity to outline ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the division's capacity, including the deployment of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Advanced Cargo Manifest system, and other digital tools.

These innovations, he explained, are designed to address systemic challenges and position the Customs Division to support Ghana’s transition into a 24-hour economy.

General Annan concluded by assuring stakeholders that the Customs Division under his leadership remains committed to excellence, accountability, and safeguarding national revenue.
