Daddy Lumba: Mrs Fosuh and Odo Broni have no consensus on joint widowhood rites, Fosuh family debunks reports
The family of the late Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo 'Daddy Lumba' Fosuh, has categorically refuted the "false information currently circulating in the media and on social platforms" that Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh and Priscilla 'Odo Broni' Ofori Atta "have agreed to perform their widowhood rites together during the funeral of the late musician".
This was communicated via a press release dated Sunday, October 26, 2025, issued by the Family Press Secretary on behalf of Daddy Lumba's family, and signed by Daddy Lumba's wife Mrs Serwah Fosuh, and his elder sister Ms Ernestina Fosuh.
The family said it "strongly denies the rumor presented by Mr. Akwasi Aboagye on his program on Peace FM 104.3, aired on Saturday, 25 October 2025, suggesting that both women involved have agreed to perform their widowhood rites together during the funeral of the late musician. This information is entirely false, misleading, and without any factual or legal basis."
Clarification
The statement said a meeting was held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Asawasehenefie, chaired by Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, Nkosuohene for Asanteman, where the issue of marital status was raised for clarification.
At the meeting, the statement continued, a representative of Ms Priscilla Ofori Atta, who has publicly claimed to be a widow of Lumba's, was asked to produce a marriage certificate or any legal documentation proving her marriage to the late singer.
"Neither Ms. Ofori Atta's lawyer nor Abusuapaini Kofi Owusu could present any evidence or marriage certificate to substantiate her claim," the Fosuh family noted.
As a result, the statement indicated that Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie ruled that in the absence of any legal proof of marriage, the only recognised and lawful widow remained Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh, "who was married to the deceased under the Marriage Ordinance and is recognized under both Ghanaian and German law".
The statement added that Nana Osei Kwame Kyeretwie, however, underlined that the matter was before the court, and that a "final determination will be made judicially".
The statement again revealed, "At the same meeting, Ms Priscilla Ofori Atta insisted on performing cultural widowhood rites.
"However, the family of the late Mr Fosuh, led by Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh and Ms. Ernestina Fosuh, firmly objected, stating that no individual can assume the role of a widow or perform widowhood rites without a valid marriage recognized by law."
The statement quoted the family: "We are not going to change the law just for Ms. Priscilla Ofori Atta - neither Ghana nor Germany will bend their legal standards to favor an individual without lawful standing."
