The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with security and regulatory agencies, has begun relocating all excavators at the Port of Tema to designated military installations in Tema, Shai Hills, and Accra.

According to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the directive is part of national efforts to regulate the importation of excavators and ensure their safe custody until they are officially cleared by their respective owners.

The move is also expected to help decongest the port and create additional capacity for operations.

GPHA explained that existing customs clearance procedures at the port remain unchanged.

However, once clearance formalities are completed, consignees will now be required to take delivery of their equipment from the designated military bases.

The Authority further announced that the cost of transporting the excavators to the military installations, as well as custody charges, will be borne strictly by consignees.

Stakeholders and importers have been advised to comply with the directive, which officials say is necessary to safeguard national security and promote trade facilitation.
