Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr John Jinapor, has underscored the importance of strategic partnerships, innovative financing, and policy stability in driving solar energy investments across Africa.

Speaking during a high-level panel discussion at the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly on the theme “Accelerating Solar Ecosystems Through Counter Partnerships,” Mr. Jinapor highlighted the critical role of collaboration between governments, financial institutions, and private sector players in advancing renewable energy goals.

He emphasised that macroeconomic stability, predictable policy environments, and strong fiscal and regulatory frameworks are essential to attract sustainable and bankable solar investments on the continent.

“To build a robust solar ecosystem, we must ensure that our policies are consistent and our economies are stable.

Investors need predictability and confidence that their projects will yield returns,” the Minister said.

Mr. Jinapor also identified key enablers for Ghana’s solar expansion, including the establishment of land banks for solar projects, sound Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and a reliable electricity distribution system.

“When we sell the power produced, we must also ensure that the money is recovered through the value chain,” he noted, stressing the need for financial discipline and transparency in the energy sector.

Looking ahead, the Minister said Ghana was focused on proactively planning its energy mix, strengthening regional collaboration, and mobilising patient capital from institutions such as the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Africa Energy Bank.

“Ghana is ready to lead the way in building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable solar future,” he affirmed.

The International Solar Alliance Assembly serves as a key platform for member countries to share insights, forge partnerships, and accelerate solar deployment globally.
