President Mahama announces creation of Big Push Secretariat

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the creation of a dedicated Big Push Secretariat under the Office of the President to oversee Ghana’s ambitious $10 billion infrastructure programme.
Speaking at the launch of the Big Push Roads project in the Volta Region on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 — marked by the a sod-cutting for the redevelopment of the Atimpoku–Asikuma–Anyrawasi–Ho–Denu–Aflao Road (177km) — the president said the secretariat would serve as the central hub for planning, monitoring, and reporting on all Big Push projects.
“We are setting up a Big Push Secretariat under the Office of the President. It will have engineers and other experts who will track the progress of every project,” Mahama stated.
The president explained that the unit would adopt a hands-on approach, with regular site visits and comprehensive documentation.
“They will visit the projects regularly, take pictures and videos, and provide updates at every stage,” he added.
Mahama revealed that modern technology will be deployed to deliver real-time updates directly to the presidency, ensuring unprecedented oversight of contractors nationwide.
“From the Flagstaff House in Accra, I’ll be able to see the work every contractor is doing across the country,” he emphasised.
The Big Push, first introduced in 2020, has been relaunched with an initial investment of 14 billion cedis this year and a projected 30 billion cedis next year.
The programme is expected to transform Ghana’s infrastructure landscape and close the country’s annual $1.5 billion infrastructure deficit.
The establishment of the secretariat, Mahama noted, reflected government’s determination to guaranteeing accountability, transparency, and timely delivery of all projects under the Big Push initiative.
