V/R: Bridge collapse cuts off Ho communities after heavy downpour

Hundreds of residents travelling between Ho and the adjoining communities of Kpenoe, Takla, and Hordzo have been left stranded after a bridge connecting the areas collapsed following a heavy downpour on September 15.

The incident has crippled transportation, cutting off access to schools, markets, and essential services.

The worst impact is being felt by farmers, traders, and students who depend on the road to reach the Ho township.

Residents who spoke to Class News expressed frustration over what they described as repeated “promise-and-fail” approaches by successive governments.

They appealed to authorities, particularly the Ho Municipal Assembly, to take swift action to repair the damaged bridge and restore movement.

The Paramount Chief of the Takla Traditional Area, Togbe Ayim Adzokoto II, described the development as a major setback, noting that the affected road serves as the main route for at least 80% of travellers entering Ho and connects directly to the municipality’s main market.

He urged the government to prioritise immediate reconstruction.

Meanwhile, stranded motorists and farmers have raised concerns over the economic toll of the collapse, warning that delays in fixing the bridge will disrupt livelihoods and worsen hardship.

“This road has been in poor condition for years, and now that the bridge has broken down, life has become unbearable for us,” one distressed resident lamented.

For now, communities remain cut off, with growing pressure on authorities to intervene urgently to prevent further suffering.
