Ghana Revenue Authority dismantles illegal diesel export ring

Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA), has revealed that the Authority has intercepted 10 trucks loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, in a crackdown on illegal fuel exportation and tax evasion.
The trucks, which were traced to the Kpone enclave, were suspected to be exporting goods without complying with due process and tax procedures.
The GRA, in collaboration with National Security operatives, acted swiftly on intelligence and intercepted the trucks at the port.
Investigations revealed that the company had disengaged the tracking devices on the tankers and diverted the diesel, estimated at about 540,000 litres.
The vehicles have been impounded, and investigations are ongoing.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the state stands to lose approximately GHS 2.3 million in taxes and levies from this illegal operation.
The GRA has warned that any entity or individual found to be complicit in revenue-damaging schemes will face the necessary sanctions.
The Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, further emphasised that the Authority remains resolute in dismantling illegal networks that undermine the country's progress.
He urged all licensed petroleum operators, depot managers, and transporters to adhere strictly to established export and tax procedures.
The GRA has been working with the National Security, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), and other agencies to ensure full compliance with the laws and protect national revenue.
The Authority has also commissioned a forensic audit into the operations of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) that have been identified as engaging in diversion of petroleum products.
The GRA has warned that any entity or individual found culpable of tax evasion, smuggling, and diversion of petroleum products will face the full force of the law.
The Authority remains committed to protecting national revenue and supporting Ghana's economic recovery.
