President Akufo-Addo's statue

A statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo, located at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi, has sustained damage, sparking speculation and concern among residents.

On Monday, 16th December 2024, a gaping hole was discovered at the back of one of the statue’s legs.

The cause of the damage remains uncertain, with residents divided on whether it was the result of deliberate vandalism or structural defects.

The statue, unveiled by President Akufo-Addo during his visit to the Western Region ahead of the 2024 general elections, was intended to honour his administration’s contributions to regional development.

These include the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of Takoradi Market Circle.

While some residents speculate that rushed construction may have compromised the statue’s quality, others believe it was a fitting tribute to the President’s legacy in the region. Investigations into the cause of the damage are yet to be conducted, leaving the future of the monument uncertain.
