Deputy Defence Minister champions discipline and Patriotism at 2025 National Cadet Music and Drill competition

Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has underscored the importance of instilling values of discipline, patriotism, and ethical leadership in Ghanaian youth, as he represented Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah at the 2025 edition of the National Music and Drill Competition organised by the National Cadet Corps.
The event, held over the weekend, brought together cadet units from across the country in a vibrant display of drill precision and musical excellence.
It was held under the theme: “Re-emerging Youth: Reflecting on Discipline and Loyalty to Country – A Call to Review and Reset.”
In his keynote address, Mr. Genfi stressed that Ghana’s development should not be assessed solely through economic figures or political achievements, but by the values instilled in its youth.
“Our journey as a nation cannot continue to be measured solely by economic or political milestones.
It must also be measured by the character we instil in our youth,” he said.
He added that in today's complex and fast-evolving world, academic excellence alone is not enough.
Young people, he emphasised, must also be rooted in moral clarity, possess a strong sense of identity, and live lives driven by service to the nation.
“We must foster a generation that is not only educated but ethical; not only bold but respectful; not only skilled but service-minded,” he noted.
The Deputy Minister also used the occasion to interact with officers and the Commanding Officer of the 48th Engineer Regiment, commending them for their support in nurturing the next generation of disciplined leaders.
Mr. Genfi congratulated all participating schools and extended special accolades to the award-winning cadet teams, praising their commitment and spirit of excellence.
