Foreign Affairs Ministry denies issuing Ghanaian passports to Nigerians

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has dismissed as false and unfounded claims circulating on social media that it is issuing Ghanaian passports to thousands of Nigerian nationals.
In a statement on the matter, the Minister, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, categorically denied the allegations, describing them as baseless attempts to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of Ghana’s passport issuance system.
“The claims are entirely false. The process for acquiring a Ghanaian passport is thorough and strictly reserved for citizens of Ghana,” the Minister stated.
He explained that applicants must provide verified documentation proving their Ghanaian citizenship. Additionally, the passport acquisition process includes multiple rounds of interviews and rigorous vetting to establish the authenticity of each applicant’s identity and heritage.
“Vetting officers are mandated to conduct comprehensive background checks to confirm the applicant’s Ghanaian nationality,” Mr. Ablakwa added.
To further assure the public of the credibility and transparency of the system, the Ministry has invited citizens and stakeholders to visit its headquarters to observe the passport application procedures first-hand.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard the false reports and cautioned against the spread of misinformation that could damage national institutions and incite unwarranted public anxiety.
