Ghana Medical Trust Fund, NPA explore partnership to tackle rising diabetes cases
The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Miss Obuobia Darko Opoku and her team have paid a working visit to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), where they were warmly received by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, and senior management of the Authority.
The meeting centred on exploring a strategic partnership between both institutions to support critical national health initiatives.
During the discussions, Mr. Tameklo highlighted the alarming increase in diabetes cases in the country, revealing that the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital alone has recorded over 5,000 new cases within the past eight months.
He described the statistics as a wake-up call for stronger public health interventions.
He reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to collaborating with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, indicating that a key project would be identified and supported, pending the approval of the NPA Board.
“We are confident in what this collaboration can achieve,” Mr. Tameklo said.
“Only a good man plants a tree whose shade he will never sit under.
This is what the Ghana Medical Trust Fund represents — a legacy to be the oak tree under which every Ghanaian will one day sit.”
He commended the Fund’s vision of promoting sustainable healthcare support across the country, describing it as a testament to leadership that truly cares for the well-being of citizens.
The visit forms part of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s broader engagement strategy to mobilise national institutions and private partners in the fight against chronic diseases and to strengthen healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
