Akufo-Addo to lead AU election observation mission to Republic of Congo
Ghana’s former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been appointed by the African Union to lead its Election Observation Mission to the Republic of the Congo ahead of the country’s upcoming presidential election.
The presidential polls in the Central African nation are scheduled to take place on March 15, 2026.
According to a statement from the Office of the former President, the African Union Election Observation Mission will comprise members drawn from the AU Permanent Representatives Committee, the Pan-African Parliament, the African Governance Platform, election management bodies, independent election experts, civil society organisations, as well as representatives of women’s and youth groups.
The mission will monitor the electoral process and assess its credibility in line with democratic principles and international election observation standards.
Mr Akufo-Addo is expected to depart Accra on Friday, March 13, 2026, to lead the delegation and will return to Ghana on March 18, 2026.
