The Electoral Commission (EC) has ruled the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies all in the Greater Accra Region as illegal and invalid.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair for Operations, made the announcement during a press briefing in Accra on Friday, citing irregularities in the collation process that violated the provisions of CI 127, the law governing electoral procedures.

According to Tettey, while the re-collation of results for three constituencies—Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North—has been successfully completed, several others, including Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South, are still pending.

The situation in Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central was particularly concerning.

Mr Tettey revealed that party supporters besieged the collation centres, disrupted the process, and forced electoral officers to declare results favouring their preferred candidates.

“It is important to note that the re-collation in these constituencies did not follow laid-down processes as enshrined in CI 127, despite police presence to ensure order,” Tettey explained.

He further stressed that in all four cases, EC officers were subjected to threats and coercion, leading to results being declared without adherence to proper collation and declaration procedures.

“The commission concludes that the collation and declarations, which did not follow laid-down procedures, are illegal and cannot be upheld,” he stated.
