Ghanaian football coach and pundit Christopher Nimley has urged the Black Stars to stand by midfielder Thomas Partey following reports that England’s Football Association is considering its approach to the traditional pre-match handshake ahead of the teams’ 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L encounter.

According to reports in England, FA officials may discuss how England players handle pre-match greetings with Partey before the June 23 fixture. The reports come as the midfielder is due to stand trial in the United Kingdom over allegations he has denied.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Nimley said Ghana’s players should show support for their teammate.

“To hell with them if they don't want to shake Thomas Partey's hand. No Black Stars player should shake any English player's hand either. Let's protect our star player, Thomas Partey,” he rallied.

Partey was recently named in coach Carlos Queiroz’s final 26-man squad for the World Cup and is expected to play a key role for Ghana in a group that also includes Panama and Croatia.

Ghana will face England on June 23 in Boston in a match that could have significant implications for qualification to the knockout stage. Nimley said the focus should remain on supporting Partey and maintaining team unity.
