Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams has dismissed claims that tickets for Ghanaian fans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are being illegally sold, saying government is not involved in such activity.

He made the comments on Citi Eyewitness News on June 1, stating that reports circulating are based on speculation and misunderstandings about supporter mobilisation arrangements.

He explained that private travel and tour companies are independently organising supporter packages and charging for their services, and that this should not be confused with any government ticket distribution.

The minister said the government is not using public funds for supporter mobilisation and has instead allowed private partners to support the process voluntarily.

He noted that Ghana’s arrangement with FIFA uses electronic ticketing linked to individual email addresses to reduce resale and black-market activity.

According to him, tickets may also be issued in groups of up to 20, with a designated leader responsible for managing entry.

He added that measures have been introduced to improve transparency, with embassies, high commissions, diaspora leaders, and officials involved in overseeing distribution in Canada and the United States.

Mr Adams acknowledged that demand will exceed supply due to the size of Ghanaian communities abroad but urged patience and cautioned against claims of bias in allocation.

He assured that the process will be transparent and open, with clear communication on how tickets are distributed.
