Bawumia resumes campaign trail in N/R
After a brief four-day hiatus from his northern regional tour, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), returned to the campaign trail on Sunday, 21 July 2024.
Dr. Bawumia had paused his campaign to attend to official duties in Accra but is now set to cover the remaining constituencies in the north.
The NPP flagbearer began his northern campaign earlier this month, following the unveiling of his running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
His campaign has, thus, far seen significant engagement across about half of the northern constituencies, drawing large crowds and garnering substantial support from traditional rulers in various parts of the region.
On his return to the campaign trail in the Savannah Region, Dr. Bawumia is expected to visit Bole, the hometown of his main contender, former President and now flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama.
His presence in the Savannah Region has consistently attracted massive turnouts, and he traditionally enjoys strong support in Bole from a growing number of NPP enthusiasts.
Bole, once a stronghold for the NDC with landslide victories, has seen a shift in political dynamics.
The NDC’s dominance in the area has been challenged by the emergence of Dr. Bawumia, despite former President Mahama being the party’s candidate in the last three general elections.
