O/R: EC Director assures residents of preparedness for peaceful, transparent Dec. 7 polls
The Oti regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed its readiness for free and fair elections on Saturday, 7 December 24, with all election materials dispatched to constituencies.
Mr. Nuhu Mahama, the EC's Regional Director, assured that essential materials, including ballot papers, boxes, biometric devices, and computers, are in place for a smooth election day.
“We hope all registered voters will come out in their numbers to cast their ballots,” he stated, with 410,607 voters expected across nine constituencies, including the newly created Guan constituency.
Mr. Mahama urged election officials to uphold fairness and transparency, ensuring votes are accurately counted. He also encouraged first-time and youth voters to participate actively.
“We ask Ghanaians to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the election,” he added.
To assist persons with disabilities, polling stations will be accessible, and trained staff will be on hand to help.
The creation of the Guan constituency gives voters the chance to elect an MP for the first time, with 19,651 registered voters expected to cast their ballots. Residents hope this will bring much-needed development to the area.
Security measures have been enhanced to ensure a peaceful and safe voting process.
