Ghana Armed Forces deploy troops to flood-hit communities in Accra under ‘Operation Boafo’
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has deployed personnel to flood-affected communities across Accra to support rescue efforts following heavy rains that have inundated several parts of the capital.
The operation, dubbed Operation Boafo, was activated to provide emergency assistance to residents trapped by rising floodwaters, according to the Commanding Officer of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, Lt Col Amponsah said military teams have been positioned in key flood-prone areas, including Klagon, Tse Addo, Dzowulu and nearby communities, to respond quickly to emergency situations.
He explained that the deployment forms part of efforts to protect lives and assist residents affected by the flooding.
According to him, personnel have already rescued a number of people who became stranded in their homes and requested assistance as floodwaters continued to rise.
Lt Col Amponsah urged residents requiring urgent rescue or emergency support to contact the Operation Boafo response team on 0244 312 667.
While acknowledging that flooding remains severe in some parts of the city, he said no deaths had been recorded at the time of the interview.
Emergency agencies continue to work together to respond to the flooding as authorities monitor the evolving situation and provide assistance to affected communities.
